November 9, 2015Red Cross celebrates 100 years of care with free family event
11am – 4pm, Saturday 14 November, 2015, Shed 10 Queens Wharf, Auckland
Family event features stage performances and music, including by guest artist Tiki Taane, children’s emergency services zone, international food court, and a history of New Zealand Red Cross with author Margaret Tennant.
Photographic exhibition, Missing Lives, a collection of powerful images from the Yugoslav Wars by award-winning photojournalist Nick Danziger, will also be on display. Twenty years on from the wars in former Yugoslavia, thousands of families are still waiting to learn the fate of their loved ones who remain missing. Missing Lives gives a voice to the silenced victims, and pays tribute to them and their families. Through its Restoring Family Links programme, New Zealand Red Cross traces separated family members to clarify the fate of missing loved ones.
New Zealand Red Cross staff and volunteers will also be on site to share stories of Red Cross work in Auckland, in communities across New Zealand and around the world.
The event is part of Red Cross’ century of care celebrations, marking 100 years of humanitarian activity in New Zealand.
Red Cross began in New Zealand in 1915, with Kiwis sending food parcels, clothes and medical supplies to sick and wounded soldiers in hospitals overseas. One hundred years later, we are at the forefront of humanitarian assistance at home and overseas and are part of the world’s oldest and most trusted humanitarian organisation.
